ASTONish presents a masterclass with Javaad Alipoor

Javaad Alipoor is a writer, director and sometimes performer. He is Resident Associate Director at The Crucible Sheffield, where he will be directing next year, and Artistic Director of Northern Lines, a company he began working within hard-to-reach communities to make high quality professional practice shows that respond to big international political questions for non traditional audiences.
His latest work, Believers Are But Brothers examines violence, masculinity and extremism (supported by HOME, National Theatre Studio, Ovalhouse, TRANSFORM Festival and Theatre in the Mill). It won a Fringe First, a Lustrum Summerhall award and was nominated for a Total Theatre Aware at the Fringe 2017.
Previous work includes Orgreave: An English Civil War, about the Miners’ Strike and the Arab Spring and My Brother’s Country - about murdered Iranian pop icon Fereydoun Farrokhzad. His writing about politics and social theory have been published including in Khiyana: The Syrian Revolution (Unkant) and Fear And Friendship (Continuum), and his fiction and poetry is occasionally published in journals including Critical Muslim.
